Most winter hoodies pick a side. A full down puffer keeps the heat in but your arms live inside a sleeping bag - reach across the truck bed and the sleeves bunch at the elbow; swing an axe and you overheat in two minutes flat. A fleece hoodie moves with you, but your core goes cold the second the wind picks up.
The BÆRSkin Grizzly Puffer Hoodie is engineered the way a grizzly's own coat is: dense insulation at the core, lighter fibre at the joints. One hoodie built from two fabrics, mapped exactly to where your body loses heat and where it needs to move.
The First Puffer Built the Way a Grizzly's Coat Is Built.
Soft, fluffy down clusters trap air far more efficiently than any synthetic - which is why we use it where you lose heat first: the chest, back and body. 90% down to 10% feather is the premium ratio, light enough that you forget you're wearing it, warm enough to handle a 25°F morning.
The sleeves, hood and side panels are built from 340gsm anti-pill BÆRSkin MicroFleece - full-weight warmth without a word of restriction. Bonded to the shell rather than sewn, so the fabric moves with you instead of bunching at the shoulder and elbow.
Traditional puffers are stitched together, which means thousands of needle holes for wind to sneak through and feathers to escape from. The Grizzly's baffles are heat-sealed and bonded, not sewn - clean, smooth lines on the outside and zero leaks on the inside.
The front zip connects directly into the BÆRSkin Heavy-Storm Rain Jacket, Polar Parka or AY Softshell - layer up for a full three-piece storm system or wear the Grizzly on its own. One hoodie, three jackets, every winter.
The science is simple. Not every square inch of your body loses heat at the same rate. Your core - chest, back, kidneys - loses it fastest, so that's where you need maximum insulation. Your joints need freedom of movement more than they need bulk. Pack them with down and they stiffen; wrap them in fleece and they move. That's targeted heat mapping, and it's how the Grizzly keeps you both warm and mobile at the same time.
The point of a winter hoodie isn't to look winter-proof. It's to let you keep doing the things you'd otherwise skip in November. The Grizzly handles yard mornings, fishing dawns, campsite breakfasts and the drive home with the heater running. On its own on a cold-but-dry day. Zipped into the Heavy-Storm Rain Jacket when the sky turns. Either way: core hot, arms free, pockets loaded.
It's a construction method where insulation is placed deliberately based on where your body actually needs it. Your core (chest, back, kidneys) loses heat fastest, so that's where the duck down sits. Your joints (shoulders, elbows, hood) need to move freely, so those are built from bonded MicroFleece instead. The result is a hoodie that's warm where it should be and mobile everywhere else - rather than one that just piles bulk evenly across the whole garment.
